Reading / research notes

Does research mean a treatment is ready for care?

Ask what was studied, in whom, and which product was used. Then ask a separate question about the medicine being offered to you.

Does a drug code mean approval?

A drug product is listed in a government directory using a number called an NDC, which means National Drug Code. It tells you which product is listed.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is the agency that reviews medicines.

As of September 2026, an entry with an NDC does not prove FDA approval, the agency says.

Does a study settle what a clinic may offer?

Ask whether the study tested the same medicine you are being offered, supplied the same way, such as a pill or a shot. Was it for the same health problem? Ask who took part and what the study could not tell you.

BPC-157, ipamorelin and retatrutide are names of peptide ingredients offered online. As of September 2026, none has an FDA-approved US medicine. Ask for the exact name in your offer and what health problem it claims to treat.

Check two things separately: what is known about possible harm from this ingredient, and whether a pharmacy may use it to make your medicine. Making medicine to order is called compounding. The lack of FDA approval alone does not answer both questions.

As of September 2026, the FDA says retatrutide cannot be made into a compounded medicine under federal law.

Does an advisory meeting change the rules?

A group advising the FDA is called an advisory committee.

The meeting is about the list of extra ingredients regular pharmacies can use in medicines they make to order. As of September 2026, a vote by FDA advisers does not change that list. The FDA must complete its rule-making process, including inviting public comments, before changing it.

The July 2026 meeting asked whether certain peptide ingredients belong on that list. As of September 2026, no official FDA minutes, transcript or vote record could be found. A headline about that meeting cannot tell you that a pharmacy may make your medicine.

Ask for the current FDA rule before accepting a claim that the meeting allowed a pharmacy to make your medicine.

What can a report of harm prove?

FDA reporting guidance says that a report by itself does not establish whether a medicine caused the reported problem.

Such reports also cannot measure how often that problem happens.

What backs up the answer?

FDA / the advisory record

The July 2026 meeting considered ingredients for made-to-order medicines. As of September 2026, there was no official FDA vote record to support a claim about how the advisers voted.

FDA / a specific ingredient

The FDA says that, as of September 2026, federal law bars pharmacies from compounding retatrutide. A research claim or a drug listing number does not remove that restriction.
